The students in the Early Music ensembles led by Jennifer Publicover, based out of the Round Church, will present fun Irish and Scandinavian tunes and charming Baroque and Renaissance chamber music at a concert in the Round Church. A freewill offering will be taken in support of the renovation of the St George’s Music Room in the parish hall.
7:30pm, Saturday, November 9 This year marks 75 years since celebrated Nova Scotian contralto Portia White made her NYC debut at Town Hall in 1944. This special presentation recreates White's historic NYC concert featuring works by Thomas André Campra, Henry Purcell, Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, and Florence B. Price, as well as spirituals and text by African American poet Langston Hughes. The Grammy Award-winning soprano Harolyn Blackwell is accompanied by prize-winning pianist Daniel Zelibor.
5pm, Sunday, November 10. This will provide an opportunity for reflection on the devastation caused by war and conflict, and the trauma inflicted on civilians and those who serve in the Armed Forces and their families. Music for the service will include Thomas Tomkins' "I heard a voice" along with his Preces and Responses. Canticles will be sung to the Evening Service by John Blow. The Anthem will be "Justorum animae" by William Byrd, and the concluding organ voluntary will be "Pièce Héroique" by Cesar Franck.
