The Exhortation appointed to be read on Ash Wednesday (page 611-612) in the Book of Common Prayer directs us to “the observance of a holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance, by prayer, fasting, and self-denial, and by reading and meditation upon God’s holy Word.” The Rector will lead three bi-weekly sessions to help us better understand these disciplines, what the Book of Common Prayer says about them, and how we might undertake them with a renewed vigour. Music for this service will include Dixit Maria by Hans Leo Hassler, Preces & Responses by Richard Ayleward and Robert Ramsey's Evening Canticles. Hassler's Verbum caro factum est will be sung as the anthem. The organ voluntary will be Magnificat Primi toni, Bux WV 203 by Dieterich Buxtehude. The Rector will preach.
