Feed NS Learning Kitchen closing at the end of March: How it affects St George’s Soup Kitchen

Some of you may have heard on the news recently that at the end of March Feed Nova Scotia is closing the Learning Kitchen, a program that helps underemployed individuals develop the skills to work in a commercial kitchen, through cooking meals for local shelters and soup kitchens.

The Learning Kitchen has been the backbone of our roster of food providers for the Soup Kitchen at St George’s. Twenty-three full meals in 2014 were provided by the staff and students at the Learning Kitchen, and nearly every single week they sent at least a portion of the meal — often prepared veggies, desserts, or garlic bread.

This year there are sixteen Saturdays after the end of March when we would have hoped to receive food from the Learning Kitchen. Read more…

  • Sunday, Mar 25th 9:30am: Palm Sunday Procession and Blessing of Animals 2018
    Beginning at Saint George’s Round Church, with visits to the Little Dutch Church, Cornwallis Street Baptist Church, Brunswick Street United Church, and Saint Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, this procession celebrates Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. All welcome!

Canon Walter Harris, RIP

Canon Walter Harris, a faithful Priest in the Church of God, and father of Susan Harris and the Rev’d Canon Peter Harris died on Wednesday night. Our love and prayers are extended to Susan and Fr. Peter as they mourn the death of their father.

Rest eternal grant unto him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him.
