A Service of Lessons and Carols for Advent

Under the direction of Music Director, Garth MacPhee, the Choir of St. George’s Church, Halifax will sing the beautiful Service of Advent Lessons and Carols in the Round Church on Sunday, December 10th, at 5 pm. Music for the service will include Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina’s Matin Responsory and also his Vesper Responsory, the motet Vigilate by William Byrd and Elizabeth Poston’s Jesus Christ the Apple Tree carol. In addition, motets and anthems by Britten, Sweelinck, Biebl and Bairstow will be featured. Traditional hymns of the season, including Come thou Redeemer of the earth (Puer nobis nascitur), Wake, O Wake! with tidings thrilling (Wachet auf) and O Come, O Come Emmanuel (Veni Emmanuel) will be sung by all. The closing Organ Voluntary will be Nun komm der Heiden Heiland by J.S. Bach. The Offering at the Carol Service will be in support of St. George’s Christmas Family Outreach. All welcome!
